This is another food culture shock I had arriving in Emden. It was at the Farmer’s market, we were with friends walking around and we stopped at a little restaurant (that now, it does no longer exist, this was over 3 years ago). I ordered regular Bratwurst, my husband ordered Krakauer, the kids had the same as mine. Our friends ordered “Currywurst”. So again, I asked, curry? At that time, my first thought was: “curry” is not a typical german spice…I also at that time, did not know that curry was a mix of spices…Currywurst is served for every kermesse in Emden. In larger cities you will 100% find this everywhere. They usually serve this with a little piece of toast. Beloved by children and adults…
There is an interesting story on Wikipedia about Currywurst: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Currywurst
5 TBSP ketchup
1 TBSP tomato paste
4 TBSP hot water
2 tsp curry
½ tsp chilli powder
little cayenne pepper
1. mix all ingredients. Before serving, sprinkle a little curry powder on top of Bratwurst.
|Cook the wurst, then cut in little pieces and put in the sauce.|
|So einfach ist das!|
Preparation time: 10 minutes.
Although this might be little hot for children, my kids love it.
